A Disney Princess Party...in Your Mid-20s

One of my favorite things about my first official duty station are the fantastic women that I have had the opportunity of meeting while here.  We all coincidentally love Disney and Disney princesses so one day we decided to start brainstorming a Disney princess party.

Yes, it really is that fantastic.

We basically selected our individual Disney characters and spent three weeks brainstorming costume ideas, food choices, and decor options.

Ashton chose to be Tinkerbell, Hannah was Elsa from Frozen, Emily was Belle, and I was Snow White. The guys participated and I made Ryan a full prince's costume but he definitely didn't wear it. It's too bad because that cape was pretty awesome.

For Snow White-themed decorations, I used:
  • three cardboard cones from Michael's (each under $1)
  • Cottage birdhouse (sale section at Michael's- 90 cents)
  • Cardboard banner pieces (each under 50 cents)
  • Baker's Twine (roll from the dollar bins at Michael's)
  • Fancy gold foil scrapbook cardstock (1.99)
  • Three variations of green paint, brown paint, and silver/grey (anywhere from $1-$3)
Also shown are the mini apple pies. I simply made them in a cupcake tin and they were yummy!

Cream Puffs for French-themed fairytales

Kiwi and raspberries for Tinkerbell-themed dishes

Apple slices with cream cheese and bacon as part of the Snow White-themed dishes.

Carrots and ranch to make a snowman as part of the Frozen-themed foods.

Worms in the Dirt as part of the "coal mines" from Snow White.  Made from oreos, white chocolate chips, chocolate pudding, gummy worms, cream cheese, and whipped cream.

Poison apple made from green puffy (fabric) paint that dried and green paint that covered the rest of the apple.  Add green sparkles at the top to complete the look.

It was honestly so much fun. I definitely recommend spending more time planning your costume because I ended up throwing together my costume last minute, simply because everything else took so much time.  Some of the materials were more costly than expected. I highly recommend raiding sale racks, dollar bins, and thrift stores for all party materials.

Have fun!
