Etsy Favorites: Wooly Roo Dolls by kniteeney

About a year ago, I discovered Waldorf dolls. They are these German dolls, often made out of natural and/or recycled fibers. I joke around and call myself the bourgeois hippy but I actually do appreciate a well-made product.  What I really like about Waldorf toys is that this can easily be turned into a family heirloom.  They're beautiful dolls and custom made. Each one is a unique product since they are handmade.  I originally frequented the Bambolleta Dolls site, however, with so many fans, the time it takes to get a doll is a year+.  Not only that, but they do not allow custom orders.  Essentially how Bambolleta works is on a system of pre-made dolls and it turns into a free-for-all for its customers.  I just really wanted one and so began my search for this unique product.

One thing to be cautious of is the price tag. These dolls are over $100. The Bambolleta ones can be over $200 and I've seen some Waldorfs for $500.  I began pouring over Etsy, attempting to find something that was not outrageously expensive and still a beautiful product and I found, Wooly Roo Dolls.  What caught my eye was the 15-inch, Fiery Fae doll.  She reminded me of an adorable Irish lass and being a halfsie, I had to get her!

The shop owner Nadine is the sweetest lady! She truly works hard to personalize the product and we chatted about me being recently married and how I just really loved these dolls.  Essentially I hope to pass these down to my future children.  I ordered a 15-inch Fiery Fae with Red Variegated Merino hair, nose and thumbs.  Nadine also made the doll's outfit out of a recycled sweater. Very green friendly!
Cost: $150.00 + shipping = $160.00

I just got her in today and it took less than two weeks!

Now all I need to do is name her! Have a fantastic week, y'all!

Making a Background for Vlogging

I just recently ordered a video camera and plan on making more videos and doing some Vlogging. Kandee, a wonderful make-up artist, showed a tutorial on how she made her floral background for all of her videos. It inspired me to make my own.

My make-shift art studio =P

Voila! "There are many things in life," said said. "Without which we could not live...but love is the only thing I can think of." Aw shucks, I just realized I wrote "is" twice. Time to turn that into a flower or not...gives it character =]

The "Carrie" Necklace

I have always really liked the "Carrie" necklace from the show, "Sex and the City." What I always found quirky about it was that Sarah Jessica Parker's character found the necklace at like a market and while the rest of the show focuses so much on designer fashion at high costs, she always wears her "Carrie" necklace.  I believe this in a completely different style than the "Carrie" necklace but then again I'm not Carrie.

This was handmade by Gianne from Gianne Creations.  There are several options in terms of wire color and chain length but I chose it in all silver. She has really cute bracelets, anklets and rings as well!

The Very First

First name care package greatest- Drake

Here lies the very first care package I have ever created. I had recently purchased my Cricut and was stoked outta my mind (a phrase you will hear see written often by me).  In its simplicity, I love it. The message of love is clearly conveyed and in a world of rose ceremonies and women going cray cray to have a fairy tale, I think I've got quite the love story.

Make this yourself:
  • George Basic Shapes Cricut Cartridge (included with Cricut purchase)
  • Textures paper pack 100+ sheets $20
  • Photo 10 cents
  • Ramen noodles
  • shaving cream
  • shaving razors
  • Beef Jerky
  • Special K Bars
  • Huggies Baby Wipes

A Proper Homecoming

Homecomings are by far one of the most romantic events in the military world and probably one of the most romantic events the civilian world is missing out on, unless viewed on YouTube clips.
For those of you who don't know, homecoming is when a service member comes back from a deployment.  It is an epically fantastic time.  Photographers are hired, outfits are planned, nails are done, your hair is fabulous, etc. To say the least, it is quite a production.
As you can imagine, signs are often made.  The sign posted here was for Ryan's pre-deployment leave.  I live in Wisconsin, he lives in California, so it was the sign I made for when he got off the plane to come visit.  These signs can be as simple or complex as you would like.  I chose to go with a theme from the Disney/Pixar movie, "Up." The romantic theme in that movie alone is so adorable and so I thought it was most fitting for the occasion.  I used simple poster board, sketched it out free hand and then my residents (I'm an R.A., here at UW we call them House Fellows) were ecstatic to help color it in. Pretty simple, pretty basic.  You can go to a local copy shop and have one printed on thick cardstock or posterboard.  The thing with homecoming is that you want to go through the least amount of stress possible. You can have an elaborate idea planned out and if something goes wrong, you could end up ruining your own homecoming.  So take a deep breath ahhhh, and realize that your significant other will love you no matter what.
Now moving on to more elaborate signs, I know I'm going to end up making Ryan like 12 million signs, let's be real, I'm crazy in love with him.  A simple solution to make quick, cute sign is to make a digital image through Picnik.  Go to www.picnik.com and most of their services are free of charge.  I have the premium account.  It's completely worth paying that extra money, especially if you do not have photoshop, which I currently don't.  They have pre-made layouts so all I did was insert Ryan's picture into a patriotic layout, added text and covered it in lipstick kisses.  I can now take this image, save it to my computer and go to a website like www.vistaprint.com and have a banner made.  Obviously if you want a horizontal banner, use a horizontal layout or create your own.  Or skip all of it and bring a digital copy of the picture you would like to use into your local print shop and many of them provide services to design banners for you.  By using a couple of these tips, it'll make your life infinitely easier and your homecoming much more enjoyable.
